Indian Perception: Achievements an exclusively Indian Phenomenon

Indian:

Do you guys have any achievements of your own to speak of, so that for once, you can thump your own chests?

Pakistani:

>> Yes one important achievement:  Being the only small country in South Asia to check Bharat’s hegemony dead in its track.  Given the disparity in size, this is no minor task.  The second feat: Surviving against all odds.  We have survived – even if you hate us – you must appreciate this fact.

It is not part of the Pakistani character to self-congratulate and self-promote.  we don’t run to the internet to post the latest 5 rupee increase in per capita income.  It’s just not part of our nature.  However if you insist, indeed CHALLENGE me to produce ONE positive aspect, I will give in.  Here are some humble facts and accomplishments about my humble country:

International women gaga over Pakistani men…

At Reformistani, we encourage this confidence building, peace promoting, cultural exchanging behavior.  This article is written by an Indian…

There is something about Indian women and Pakistani men. With Indian tennis sensation Sania Mirza professing her love for Pak player Shoaib Malik, we try to figure out the real story…

Actor Reena Roy married cricketer Mohsin Khan; Zeenat Aman dated Imran Khan; Sushmita Sen, our Bollywood hottie, is attracted to Wasim Akram. Amidst all the controversies, media is rife with speculation about Sania Mirza, India’s tennis sensation, tying the knot with Pakistani cricketer Shoaib Malik. Well, one thing is common here – all these Indian women are terribly, terribly attracted to Pakistani men.

Field Marshall AYUB KHAN

Many feel it’s the charm of men from Pakistan – the forbidden land. Psychologist Madhumati Singh explains, “We have always heard stories of flashy, handsome Italian men being much in demand, similarly there is a charm attached to these rugged Pakistani men. They are flamboyant, suave, know the language of love, Urdu very well and use it in even better and are often seen being chivalrous around women.” She goes on to add, “They are also closest to Indian men in temperament and looks which is why these women feel confident about their choice.”

If we see all the popular alliances, most of them have been with men associated to cricket. So can we attribute this fascination to the charm of the game? Agrees relationship counselor Mahesh Sinha, “In our country, cricket is as big as a religion. Or men are crazy about it and our women, well, some of them may not know the difference between silly point and mid-offs, but they love to see their man enjoy the Gentleman’s game. It gives them a high and a will to understand it to a point.” Also cricket is one of the most globally acknowledged games and all the cricketers enjoy international acclaim lending them that elusive ‘super hero’ status. Which woman worth her diamonds can resist such a tempting package? Adds Dr Singh, “The game has a lot of glamour. Especially in India, people worship cricket and this adds to its overall charm. It plays on the psyche of women.”

However, psychologist Seema Hingorani feels otherwise. “Paki men have an appealing personality. They are earthy, men of the soil and look it as well. With their rugged good looks, international style and sky high fame they are way too attractive to any Indian woman. Such attraction can prove to be quite fatal. But if you see the trend, all the Indian women who have chosen Paki men have not chosen anyone who can overpower their popularity. Reena Roy was more successful than Mohsin Khan, and if you see Sania shares a different status as compared to Shoaib who’s not really that famous. But if Sania marries Shoaib, she will become a Pakistani bahu and she right now doesn’t realize the implications of such a move, as she is too much in love at the moment.”

Whatever the case be, many feel that love knows no boundaries and it should be left at that!

MORE INDIAN PRAISE (Thank you Thank you)

Britney Spears, the once hot and happening blonde pop star, dated a Pakistani boyfriend

Princess Diana’s great love was a British doctor of Pakistani origin, Hasnat Khan, whom she desperately wanted to marry say her friends and live in Pakistan. Jemima Khan, the lush lipped, luxurious maned blonde, actually married a Pakistani, the hottie Imran Khan and lived in Pakistan, covering her head and wearing diaphanous salwar kameezes. What is it with blonde beauties and Pakistani men? Why is Pakistan such a chick magnet?

Let’s put aside the image that Pakistan conjures up these days. Let us put aside all that’s unpleasant about Pakistan because that’s what these women did. They just looked at the romance of the Pakistani man. Don’t choke. Remember this is the land of Mirza Ghalib, Allama Iqbal and Faiz. This is the land where the most beautiful and romantic Urdu poetry was written. And, which woman can resist being courted by shayari.

Imagine a tall, good looking Pakistani doctor quoting Urdu shayari (Dr Hasnat Khan) to a love-starved Brit princess (Diana) and then comparing him to a vegetarian, horse loving, talking to plant gora-like Prince Charles. Diana read books on Islam and, is said to have kept a photograph of “my dishy doctor” at the Kensington Palace. But Dodi happened and thus ended a doomed love affair. What happened to the doctor? He went ahead and had an arranged marriage with Hadia Sher Ali of Afghan origin. That marriage didn’t last and he lives with his parents in Jhelum.

This is the land of tall and good-looking men. No Asif Zardari, Nawaz Sharif and Pervez Musharraf are not the only ones. Take a look at some of the famous Indian actors, all originating from Pakistan Raj Kapoor, Dilip Kumar, Dev Anand and Balraj Sahni. The list is endless. Muhammad Rafi came from a family of barbers in Bhatti Gate, Lahore. Pran, the sneering villain, lived in Qila Gujjar Singh, also in Lahore. Another famous Lahori was Om Prakash. The actor who captured many a heart when he danced to “aye meri zohra jabeen tujhe maloom nahi, tu abhi tak hai haseen aur mai javaan, tujpe qurbaan meri jaan, Balraj Sahni, was also from Lahore. Sahni, in fact was the secretary general of the All India Communist Party before he decided to join the film industry. Imagine if he hadn’t joined films, today we would have had Balraj Sahni in the UPA coaltion. Aah! What a delicious thought.

The Khan brothers, Feroz, Sanjay and their lesser-known siblings are also Pathans from the North West Frontier Province. So, technically speaking, Fardeen Khan is of Pakistani origin. Sharukh Khan’s parents migrated from Peshawar and Rawalpindi. The current heartthrob Ranbir also has Pathan-Pakistani origins.

A tall fair handsome Pathan is legendary in the subcontinent for his boorish and unpredictable behaviour. If girls today swoon over the long locks of Dhoni or the swagger of Sreesanth, one almost feels sorry for them. Those of us who lost our adolescent hearts to Imran Khan in the eighties had it better. While there were rumours of him cavorting with Zeenat Aman, she found another Pathan, the already married Sanjay Khan. Imran went on to marry a Jewish heiress Jemima.

Jemima is divorced from Imran Khan, but was recently seen at a rally in London protesting against his incarceration by the military regime in Pakistan. After almost a decade of being separated from Khan, and having acquired the mealy-mouthed Hugh Grant as boyfriend, she hasn’t severed her links with Pakistan. Jemima recently commented on the political affairs of the country, “the justification for the selection of Benazir’s son as chairman was that only a Bhutto could provide unity within the party. If so, then why not 25-year-old Fatima Bhutto, who is arguably more qualified for the job than her teenage face-booking cousin? ” Talking of names, Jemima had adopted the last name of Khan and never went back to her maiden name, which was Goldsmith.

Will she dump commitment-phobic Grant and go back to Pakistan to be with Imran once again is a loaded question. Imran hasn’t remarried and he desperately needs something to prop up his sagging political career. When Benazir was assassinated, Imran was in India. The pictures in the papers were of him lounging by the poolside at socialite Parmeshwar Godrej’s residence in Mumbai. Jemima seemed more politically savvy, in her reaction to the succession battle in the PPP. Stoking flames, she said: “If everything’s in a name, Fatima need not have changed hers in order to inherit. Brought up in Pakistan, unlike Bilawal, and a native speaker, she is an established writer and political commentator. At least, she has some work experience. Aunt Benazir’s first-ever job was Prime Minister of a 160-million-strong nation.”

The region of Pakistan has been invaded and occupied by Aryans, Greeks, Huns, Arabs, Turks, Mongols and Eurasians. And, let us not forget the birth of civilization took place here in the Indus Valley in 2000 B.C. Quite naturally, its people are culturally and socially wealthy. The West acknowledges it. Wonder when the Pakistanis will wake up to this fact.

WE ARE AWAKE INDIAN LADIES! WE ARE AWAKE!

Pakistan’s Shahid Afridi, whose good looks and cavalier style has won him many female fans in his country, was mobbed by fair sex in this sleepy Indian holiday resort as well. For about 30 minutes, Pakistani heart-throb had to endure mock chiding from his Indian female fans who had come to watch him at nets on Friday. Asked about all attention he had been attracting, Afridi said as long as his flamboyant batting brought crowds to stadiums, he did not bother about the rest.

And he is probably one of the hottest men I have ever seen, exquisitely dressed in a camel-tan jacket with a colorful ascot. He was sitting on the upper level landing to the left as you walk into the venerable-see-and-be-seen Highland Park Village institution. The entire landing was reserved for the former Pakistani president and his entourage of beautiful women and body guards. I was tempted to snap a pic, but thought that might be disrespectful.

Or get me shot.

I thought the black Maybach outside was his, but was told it belongs to Gene Jones, also dining at CP.

Wish you would have taken a picture. I also admire him.

/photo.cms?msid=621929Mahima Chaudhury: ”I feel Shoaib Akhtar is the hottest because I like the way he runs, his concentration levels, his dedication, commitment to what he is doing and his passion for the game. All that makes him really appealing. He is such a powerful player and runs like a horse.”

/photo.cms?msid=621930Shilpa Shetty: ”I think there are better looking Indian cricketers. In the Pakistani team I think Inzamam is a great captain and an even better batsman. And Shoaib Akhtar doesn’t need me to reiterate his position. He is known as one of the world’s fastest bowlers… that says it all!”

The other Shoaib of Pakistan cricket – the Rawalpindi Express Akhtar – has also been paired up his share of Indian leading ladies. There were even a few reports doing the rounds late last year which said he had reportedly proposed to Hansika Motwani, his co-star in his Bollywood debut film Mein aur meri Himmat.

Like Akhtar, the dapper Shahid Afridi’s name too has cropped up with that of Indian actresses.

Ironically, while all these romances – rumoured and otherwise – made its way to the news headlines, the media completely missed the very real and budding romance between Malik and Sania till Pakistan’s Geo TV broke the story late on Monday night.

Who can blame Pakistani – the founder of Pakistan started it all by marrying the “Flower of Bombay” an Iranian-descent girl in Bombay.

Jinnah and the Flower of Bombay

All we can say is good for the duo. Here is wishing the celebrity couple our very best and may they be allowed to lead their lives in peace and happiness.

Although not much is known about Jinnah’s personal life, when he was a law student in London, he regularly participated in theatre and seriously considered acting as a profession. Ruttie was considered to be the most beautiful girl of Bombay. Jinnah’s marriage with the most beautiful girl of Bombay – Ruttie: The Flower of Bombay – is considered like a fairy tale. She was quite lost in his love but was facing the agony of Jinnah’s busy life but still till end she cared about him a lot , Ruttie’s love for Jinnah can also be elaborated by reading some extracts of her last letter to him “…When one has been as near to the reality of Life (which after all is Death) as I have been dearest, one only remembers the beautiful and tender moments and all the rest becomes a half veiled mist of unrealities. Try and remember me beloved as the flower you plucked and not the flower you tread upon.” … “.. Darling I love you – I love you – and had I loved you just a little less I might have remained with you – only after one has created a very beautiful blossom one does not drag it through the mire. The higher you set your ideal the lower it falls. I have loved you my darling as it is given to few men to be loved. I only beseech you that the tragedy which commenced in love should also end with it…”.[4]

Jinnah is believed to be a very private person and he hardly showed emotions but he is known to have cried twice in public. One of the occasions was the funeral of his beloved wife Ruttie in 1929 and the other one in August 1947, when he visited her grave one last time before leaving for Pakistan. Jinnah left India in August 1947, never to return again, but he left behind a piece of his heart in a little grave in a cemetery in Bombay.[5]

Darling thank you for all you have done. If ever in my bearing your once tuned senses found any irritability or unkindness, be assured that in my heart there was place only for a great tenderness and a greater pain -a pain my love without hurt. When one has been as near to the reality of Life (which after all is Death) as I have been dearest, one only remembers the beautiful and tender moments and all the rest becomes a half veiled mist of unrealities. Try and remember me beloved as the flower you plucked and not the flower you tread upon.

I have suffered much sweetheart because I have loved much. The measure of my agony has been in accord to the measure of my love.

Darling I love you, I love you – and had I loved you just a little less I might have remained with you only after one has created a very beautiful blossom one does not drag it through the mire. The higher you set your ideal the lower it falls.

I have loved you my darling as it is given to few men to be loved. I only beseech you that the tragedy which commenced in love should also end with it.

Darling Goodnight and Goodbye

Ruttie

I had written to you at Paris with the intention of posting the letter here but I felt that I would rather write to you afresh from the fullness of my heart. R.
